Presented here is the long overdue digital release of the original score I made for the theatre production 'Perpetual'.

Conceptualised and promoted as "a sonic opera", the production took influence from the operatic form whilst building upward from a foundation rooted in sound and the sonic arts. This score was made alongside the casts movement as it was learnt, improvised and developed. We attempted to build a reciprocal and symbiotic relationship within the performance that placed sound in the fore, utilising the visceral and emotional aspects of sound as a guiding force.

The track featured here is a long-form mix-down of multiple, individually-crafted tracks*. It does not represent what the score would have sounded like on any given showing of the production as elements of the score were improvised and altered on each occasion - actions were cues for sounds and sounds were cues for actions and as such the soundtrack was amorphous and evolving throughout the period the work was shown.

I made this in collaboration with Between Teeth Theatre. I had been working with the director, Jimmy Addy, over a year prior to the show - exploring various ideas and methodologies looking at how sound and noise art could interact with theatre and live art. Between Teeth had already worked on two previous versions of Perpetual that were incredibly different to the production that I worked on - this was the third (and most probably final) rendition and it took on the most drastic metamorphosis.

I can't really express how amazing it was to work with these lovely people and to spend so much time on such a rewarding labour of love. I'd like to thank them all for putting in so much of their blood, sweat and tears. I'd also like to thank the Bunker Theatre for putting us on and all of the ancillary artists and speakers for spicing up our nights.
