Baneful Flower; Afterbirth of Dream

by James Shearman

about

Originally released at Nature Noise Wall - thank you so much M. B. for releasing in spite of the somewhat tenuous relevance of the release theme to the theme of the netlabel - when I began the project I had always had NNW set in my heart as the home for it and it had always felt a lot less tenuous but in hindsight I can see that it is. With that said, I spent a long time on this material and poured my heart into it to some degree.

From the label:

"NNW116

Baneful Flower is a minimal drone and HNW dedication to the Cut-up of William Burroughs performed on text by Jean Genet and consequently made into a composition by Charlie Looker, 'Out of Man', and performed by the Anagram Ensemble at the Stone, NYC (October 17 2015).
This was in celebration of the publication of "The Travel Agency Is On Fire: Burroughs Cuts Up The Great Bards" which compiled cut-ups Burroughs made of a number of writers as well as Genet.
The album takes this text and the resultant composition and performance and pursues a 'sonic cut-up' technique to develop source material for further distortion and obfuscation into the maximal drones you hear. Tied into the sounds core is a potent fear of what it is to be human - where human nature is purposefully unnatural in the extreme and only thoughts of fragile vulnerability are able to meet the wanton violence that plagues the mind.

Recorded on the 12th and 13th of November 2018."
